The client will be smart about pre-fetching resources it expects will be needed soon. As you play more, more resources will be cached and fewer and fewer need to be downloaded. On a fast connection you probably won't notice much of a difference – load times may be slightly longer at times. The EVE client itself then downloads resources as it needs them and caches them locally on disk, so any given resource is only downloaded once. This installs the game code without any resources (models, textures, audio and so on). After the change, the initial download package required to play the game will be on the order of 200MB and it expands to about 350MB. Today, a full install package for_ EVE_ is about 7GB that has to be downloaded and this expands to 12GB once installed. There are many implications to this change, but rest assured –that none of this will be deployed until we have full confidence in our new deployment method and are sure it will not disrupt your gameplay experience in_ EVE_. The primary driver for this change is to get people into the game quicker – both new players, downloading a trial for the first time and existing players patching after major updates. We're moving away from having resources packed into the stuff files in the EVE installation folder, to downloading individual resources on demand. Sometime early next year we will change the way we deploy the EVE Online client.
